The Bible shows us that God is good. Every believer has this expression ‘God is good’ in their mouth, especially when God has done something they are pleased with. The Bible also says that we are in the image of God, which means goodness is one trait of character every believer of Christ should display. My brother, my sister, today’s passge recalls us this: “At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy” (verses 3-5) What does this means for us?
Many believers have not yet understood that freedom does not consist in doing anything they want like the world teaches us. While you still do what you want, you are still inclined to following a life of pleasure that leads you to a slavish addiction to self-gratification. You see, Christ frees us from the desires and control of sin. Have you already been released? Are you allowing the Lord to do what He wants to do with you or are you trying to tell what you want Him to do with you?
In this passage Apostle Paul summarizes what Christ does for us when He saves us. My friend, from the day you accepted the Lord, your life has moved from a life of sin to a life where you are led by the Spirit of God. Therefore, ALL your sins, not merely some, were washed away. Now, in the process of becoming Christians, believers recognize Christ as their Lord and also acknowledge the work of salvation. And this is what gives us access to eternal life and to ALL its treasures. Yes, my friend, through the Holy Spirit, we have a new life and our hearts are constantly renewed by the Holy Spirit so we can do what is pleasing to God. None of this comes from the fact that we have abilities, we earn it or because we do something. IT IS A GIFT OF GOD!
God gives to whom He wills, as He pleases: He made Abraham the father of faith, and He made David a man after His own heart… He made Saul, a murderer, Paul, the great Apostle of Christ… None asked Him to make them what they have become. You cannot change God’s plan for you! All they did was to get to know God and obey His principles. And despite their imperfections, God established them. My brother, my sister, don’t try to be who you think you should be, because in the end, only God’s plan always ends up being accomplished. You cannot mold yourself in the image that pleases you. Only God can mold you according to His image, for He created you. All He expects of you to be able to accomplish His purposes in your life is a real heart of submission and obedience. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name
