TODAY’S MEDITATION – Why did Jesus send you the Holy Spirit? (1 John 2:26-27)

Today, we sometimes watch or see preachers calling on the Holy Spirit to do wonderful, extraordinary and unnameable miracles before the crowd. It makes us wonder, because when Jesus left, He told His disciples this: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever” (John 14:16). And here again, these verses reminds us that Christ had promised to send us the Holy Spirit for one main reason: TEACH HIS FOLLOWERS AND REMIND THEM OF ALL THAT HE HAD TAUGHT THEM (also see John 14:26). My brother, my sister, do not let anyone deceive you! Of course, the Holy Spirit performs miracles… within us by changing us and helping us to move away from our old bad habits to become a bit more like Christ… Does the Bible say He was sent to perform great miracles, like you sometimes see a whole church falling down? Yet, many times, the Bible tells us that when we become a Christian, we receive the Holy Spirit and He dwells within us TO KEEP US FROM GOING ASTRAY, TO COMFORT US, TO HELP US… The Bible does not stress on the Holy Spirit performing wonderful miracles like we see today! Rather, Jesus said “whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son”(John 14:12-14). Now, some preachers are using the Holy Spirit like an employee, because they themselves know… Let us be careful! Jesus said, in His name and for His name to be glorified, YOU will perform greater things than Him!!! When someone knows Jesus does not hear Him, He uses the Holy Spirit? We need to be vigilant in these end times, my friends! The Bible points out that the main reason you have received the Holy Spirit is to be led to Christ, the true vine. In addition to the Word of God, the Spirit of God is there to help you stay true to Christ above anything else, that is the reason why you must follow His Word and His Spirit. You have received the Spirit of God to be able to discern truth from wrong, and especially for the Spirit to guide you to the truth, Jesus (John 16:13). So my friend, as Jesus is the miracle-maker, seek to develop intimacy and a live-giving relationship with Him and let His Spirit guide you each day. Let me also recall that, Jesus knows the miracle you expect and He will give it to you when it is the appointed time, not when your pastor or any human being asks the Holy Spirit to! We should understand that Christianity is not about the signs Jesus performs through the Holy Spirit, but it is about focusing on Christ every day because it is what He bore for us on the Cross that enabled the Holy Spirit to be sent to us, so that we might live a Christ-like way. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
