The concept of sacrifices was instituted by God from Genesis, when He asked Abraham to offer Him his son. And the greatest sacrifice of all is of course, Jesus dying on the cross for our sins to be removed. Now, does it mean that because of Jesus’ sacrifice we don’t have to make sacrifices to God? Certainly not! This misconception brings many believers to abuse their bodies for example, forgetting that the Word says: “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” (Romans 12: 1). One of the main problems believer face today is that they want to live their Christian lives without abiding to Christ. Yet, today’s verse says “you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. It simply means that God wants each of us to be His ‘holy priests’ and this can happens only when we are willing to offer ourselves as living and spiritual sacrifices, on a daily basis, laying aside our own desires and following the steps of Christ, putting all our energy and resource at His disposal, and trusting Him to guide us. These are the sacrifice that please the Lord. He does not need any offering that is offered without obedience to His Word and principles. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name. [facebook] [retweet]
