Very often people who resist coming to the Lord are afraid of committing to Him. Why? Because commitment implies responsibilities and people sometimes wrongly think that when they commit to the Lord, they have to give Him something or let go something for Him. My brother, my sister, let’s clarify today that in our commitment with the Lord, WE ARE THE WINNERS… He has given His life for us already and offered us eternal life and now He wants us to commit so that He can release blessings that are in store for us as we cannot receive them from afar. Now, what does the Lord require from us really? Faithfulness and obedience to His rules. That’s it. You see, today’s verse talks about Abraham and recalls what the Lord did: ” You found his heart faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites. You have kept your promise because you are righteous.” You see, God made a covenant with Abraham, only after Abraham had proved himself faithful to God. Yet, God had started making promises to Him, just like He has made you many promises. So many examples of how God blessed people who remained faithful and obedient to Him are found in His Word… along with the fulfillment of His promises over their lives (Joseph, Hannah, David, Solomon, etc.) Does it mean those people did not make mistakes after committing to the Lord? No… because they were as human as you and I. Therefore, we have no excuse! So, today, review the terms of your own commitment with the Lord… how deep is your commitment to Him? Does the Lord look at you saying ‘it’s time I make a covenant with this daughter or this son of mine, or does He still have reserves because of your wavering commitment? My friend, with the Lord, you enter life abundantly, a life where water will never dry, a life where you are protected, covered by His blood and guided by His Spirit to become a bit more Christlike every day.
