TODAY’S MEDITATION – “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some” (John 21:6).

This story takes place after Jesus death and resurrection. His disciples had been fishing ALL NIGHT, but caught no fish at all (John 21:3). By the time dawn came, Jesus appeared to them and told them to throw the net on the right side of their boat and “when they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish” (John 21:6). My brother, my sister, what have you been doing that has not worked? Have you been throwing your net on the side that has no fish? The Bible says that “weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5).

Yes, the disciples have been using all their energy, all their knowledge, all their know-how, all their science, all their talents, all their capacities… but got nothing. This is to teach us that whenever we do something without the Lord, it can last, it can become painful and will lead us to discouragement. If you find yourself in this situation, may be the time has come for you to stop looking at things with your perspective and seek the Lord’s perspective. Just look at the fact that as soon as they changed the side, the got so much that they could not haul in the net because of the so many fish in it.

My friend, you don’t need to call Jesus to come to you. He said “Look! I am standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he will eat with me” (Revelation 3:20). Here, the disciples did not call the Lord. He Himself came to them: “Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus” (John 21:4). My friend, you don’t need to see Him or realise that He is standing by you, only believe Him, for He said “I am with you each and every day until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). The only problem is that, most of the time, we forget that He is with us, we ignore His presence and all that make us not to recognise His voice when He guides us. Has Jesus been asking you to change something in your way of behaving, talking, seeking Him, etc? Refusing to do what He is asking you is continuing to throw your net on the side you have chosen, and that is why there is no change in your situation and in your life. My friend, Jesus will never make a mistake…. He knows the unknown, He changes impossible situations… today, look deep down in yourself and determine to throw your net on the side He has shown you for you to find what He has in store for you. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
