TODAY’S MEDITATION – The Lord will show His mercy only to His faithful (Zephaniah 1:12-14)

The times are bad. Many people are experiencing things that should make us know that Christ’s return is imminent. As his disciples, this time should be the time to build or rebuild the broken walls of the church so that the Bridegroom would come and find the church ready for the wedding, and this building or reconstruction starts with each of us. The sad reality about many believers is that they still think that God is as an indulgent heavenly grandfather who is nice to have around but who has no real force in shaping this modern world. My brother, my sister, none of us will escape God’s judgement, and very soon there would be no place to hide anymore.

You see, God continues to search the city with lanterns. The city is Jerusalem, and today, Jerusalem is the church. When God searches our churches, do you think He is interested in seeing the kind of equipment are within them? Do you think He is searching to see if we are a dressed with the latest shoe in the town? No. He is searching through our hearts. You see, because most of us do not search our own hearts and because we are content with the moral chaos around us and indifferent to the things of God, He is warning us: “At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps and punish those who are complacent, who are like wine left on its dregs, who think, ‘The Lord will do nothing, either good or bad.’ Their wealth will be plundered, their houses demolished. Though they build houses, they will not live in them; though they plant vineyards, they will not drink the wine.” The great day of the Lord is near— near and coming quickly. The cry on the day of the Lord is bitter; the Mighty Warrior shouts his battle cry” (Zephaniah 1:12-14).

My friend, God is holy and therefore He will actively judge and justly punish everyone who is content to live in sin, indifferent to Him or unconcerned about justice and His Kingdom. Believing and singing the slogan “God is love” will not save anyone. Yes, He is love, but in His love He still wants you to obey Him, for He is the one who set the coming terrible day of the Lord when He will show His mercy only to His faithful. Being faithful to God is following His principles, His commandments, His advice, His wisdom… in times of good or in times of bad, with the assurance that He will never forsake you. Thus, from this day, reject all reasoning or belief that is contrary to the Word and start applying the Word of God which gives life in abundance forever. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
