TODAY’S MEDITATION – The Lord can make your walls fall down instantly… (Joshua 6:1-27)

Israel has finally crossed the Jordan and is ready to begin the conquest of the Promised Land. But, a huge wall is standing on their way. My brother, my sister, just for a moment, imagine the Israelites surrounded by huge walls after all they went through. It must have looked absolutely impossible. But they knew they had the promise of God! So, just as Israel faced the walls of Jericho, we all face walls and obstacles in our lives as well, and sometimes they come at a time when we don’t expect them… but this is also the time many of us start doubting God’s promises instead of looking for a way to overcome them as they continue marching towards their victory in Christ.

You see, many believers expect God to make the walls fall down in their lives without any cost for them, which explains why many continue to ask God “why this? why that?” Let me give you this good news: the Lord Jesus won the victory for all your walls to fall down. But the problem is not Him (He is faithful!!!). The problem is us. Let’s learn from the Israelites today to see our obstacles fall. My friend, the first thing Israel did was to associate in partnership with none other than God Himself! Yes, God was in absolute control of their battle, He was leading them, and He was the guarantee of their victory! The only part Israel had to do is to listen to the Lord’s instructions and obey. My friend, no obstacle is insurmountable as long as you face it in the Lord and with the Lord! And we are given two powerful weapons to fight: the Word of God and prayer.

Secondly, let’s look at God’s instructions that teach us not only that there is a vast difference between God’s way and the way of man (Isaiah 55:8-9) but also that God is the greatest strategist you can partner with, even though what He is asking you looks foolish! My friend, just imagine what the soldiers thought when Joshua told them this is the battle plan, after receiving it for God: ‘we are going to march silently around Jericho for six days, and on the seventh day we are going to shout and the wall will fall’… My friend, though the plan seemed foolish, Joshua and his people followed God’s instructions to the letter, and the massive walls collapsed instantly, and Israel won an easy victory (Joshua 6:2-20).

What should we learn from this passage? two things: OBEDIENCE is the clear evidence of faith and your FAITH is the evidence to others that you truly believe in Him. You see, when the people of God, by faith, followed the commands of God, the walls of Jericho fell down (Joshua 6:20). As simple as that! We too should learn that faith without works is dead (James 2:26). It is not enough to say, ‘I believe in God’or ‘I trust God’ and then live in an ungodly manner: when we truly believe and trust in the Lord, our desire is to obey Him, our faith is put to work. We make every effort to do exactly what God says and keep His commandments, and my friend, this is when the Lord will give you victory over the enemies that you face throughout life. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
