TODAY’S MEDITATION – The light in you cannot remain covered (John 8:12)

Jesus said “I am the Light of the world”(John 8:12). My brother, my sister, there are two lights in this world: the physical light we perceive when we come into the world and that helps us to see what our Creator, the Almighty God, has created, and the most important one, the spiritual light that is offered to us by the Son of Man. My friend, Jesus is the exclusive source of spiritual light. No other source of spiritual truth is available to us. Now, as Jesus’ followers, we can enjoy two main promises in this passage: first, once we believe in Him and accept Him, we will never walk in darkness again because we have the assurance of salvation. Indeed, the true followers of the Light cannot follow the ways of sin or live in a perpetual state of sin (1 John 1:5-7 ), but they will be more inclined to repent of their sins in order to remain close to the Light. The second promise is that we will reflect the Light of Life. Jesus, the Light of the World, commands us to be ‘lights’ too (Matthew 5:14-16). Yes, the Light within us must be obvious to others, through the good deeds we do in faith and the power of the Holy Spirit. That is why every Christian should ensure to be a credible witness to the world, a witness who shows the world how to be faithful, how to respect God by being trustworthy, sincere, serious and honest in everything they do. In other words, being a Christian is to be ready to give an account of the hope we have (1 Peter 3:15), so that the gospel of the light we have received is neither tainted or stifled, but made obvious for all to see and benefit from so that those who do not yet know Jesus can also leave the darkness and into His light. Remain blessed in the name of Jesus.
