TODAY’S MEDITATION – The breath of the Almighty within us, that makes us intelligent (Job 32:7-9)

How many people out there think they are intelligent and they refuse to serve the Lord because they believe in themselves? My brother, my sister, it is not good enough to recognize a great truth; it must be lived every day! Today’s passage says: “I thought, ‘Age should speak; advanced years should teach wisdom.’ But it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding. It is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right.”

In today’s passage, Job’s friend, Elihu, recognises the truth that God is the only source of real wisdom, even though he himself did not use God’s wisdom to help Job. Though he recognised where wisdom came from, he did not seek to acquire it. My friend, you may think that you are intelligent or wise today, but never forget that, becoming wise is an ongoing, lifelong pursuit… just as our Christian walk. Knowing about wisdom is not what will make your life different. It is making wisdom part of your life that will make it change, as “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” (Proverbs 9:10). Now these bring about two questions: can someone say they have wisdom when they don’t fear the Lord? Can someone who does not know God pretend to have wisdom? Most of the time, we attribute wisdom to people based on what WE SEE… what THEY HAVE ACHIEVED… The answer is simple: “Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise” (1 Corinthians 3:18).

My friend, the Word of God clearly says it is the breath of God within us that makes us wise, intelligent… Therefore we should never forget that “the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God” (1 Corinthians 3:19). Let’s reflect on true wisdom today to acknowledge that it comes from our knowledge of WHO the Lord is, it stems from our fear of God… and this Wisdom is found in the Word of God for it is the only wisdom that leads to success in life: “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Joshua 1:8). Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
