TODAY’S MEDITATION – Stay close to God (Judges 10:11-14)

On these verses, God is addressing His people that He loves: “When the Egyptians, the Amorites, the Ammonites, the Philistines, the Sidonians, the Amalekites and the Maonites oppressed you and you cried to me for help, did I not save you from their hands? But you have forsaken me and served other gods, so I will no longer save you. Go and cry out to the gods you have chosen. Let them save you when you are in trouble!” My brother, my sister, we all know how difficult it can be to follow God over the long haul. You see, the Israelites always seemed to forget God when all was well. Even so, despite their rejection, God never failed to rescue them when they called out to Him in repentance. My friend, God never fails to rescue us either, even when act just like the Israelites by putting Him outside our daily activities instead of at the centre of them…

Today, our main enemies are mostly within ourselves as we don’t have to fights against the Egyptians anymore, but against all the world is presenting us through its promotion of easy money, selfishness, self-expression, self-made-men, self-success, etc… Yes, we should never forget that the Word of God warns us: “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). When we allow the selfishness of the world to lead our way of living, God, our Creator, feels rejected, ignored or neglected… and He cannot act in our lives. Let’s then strive to stay close to Him rather than see how far we can go before judgment comes. My friend, nothing the world offers can save you… Only God is the source of everything you see and everything you may need in this world, so try hard to stay close to Him, by developing intimacy with Him, by remaining faithful to His commands, by setting your eyes on Jesus your Lord and Saviour who suffered so that you may find peace and relief today and above all paved the way for you to have direct access to God. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
