TODAY’S MEDITATION – “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy” (Exodus 20:2-17)

This Commandments says: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, “but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God” (Exodus 20:8-10). When we read the New Testament, the Lord Jesus echoed this Commandment by saying: “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27-28). My brother, my sister, today’s meditation is not about whether or not Christians should observe the Sabbath or not, or when to observe it because it can be every day we choose to worship our Lord and Saviour, the Lord of the Sabbath! The purpose is to recall the importance of remembering it. So many believers today take the time and day they should worship the Lord lightly. So, let’s get into the word to try and understand what the Lord expects of us.

First, the Old Testament tells us to remember the Sabbath, and it is a commandment of God, represented by the fact of setting aside a day of rest and worship to your God. God has commanded us by showing us that He Himself took a break after working for six days when He created the universe. He also shows us that we need to take a time of rest and a time of worship every week, because unlike humans being, He is concerned enough about your well-being to instruct you that. Now if you look at the substance of the plan of God, this day of rest and worship should be able to allow you to restore your physical body that is daily put to the test in this fast-paced world. But that’s not all as this same day should enable you to worship Him who is the only alone who can enable you to benefit from His spiritual refreshment.

My friend, ensure to always keep this rest and worship of the Lord, because the Lord knows why He has established it better than you. He created you and He knows you are limited and that you need this refreshing day in order to keep your faith firm, but also for your physical strength. Do not do like the Pharisees who were more focused on the words of the Commandments and missed to understand its intention. The Sabbath is the fourth of the 10 Commandments, and Jesus did not abolish the Law, He fulfilled it! All you have to do now is to follow His steps. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
