In this fast-paced world we are living in, stress has become part of our lives: we stress for not having enough of what we think we need, we stress and it destroys our health, we stress because we keep ourselves busy all the time.
Busy Martha was reprimanded by Jesus, because she was so stressed out by her house chores that she started complaining about her sister Mary who was relaxing and unwinding at the feet of the Lord, listening to him. Jesus said to Martha: “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from he” (Luke 10:41-42).
God, the Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in it rested. In the Old Testament, He commanded His people to keep the Sabbath. The principle was simple – no form of work on the Sabbath day. Take one day off from work but to do what?
One of the most common causes of a lack of relaxation is the feeling of insecurity. That is the real issue. Today, reflect: What is causing your insecurities? Fear of the future? The need for some form of income? Family? Relationship?
No matter what it is, remember that you should still make time at least once a week to unwind and relax. And the best way to do so is by seeking the Lord (no TV or phone but reading the Bible, no vain conversation with people but conversation with God, no revenge on leftovers but fasting)… that will recharge your spiritual batteries and give you wings to fly over trials, tribulations and challenges ahead of you.
Stay blessed in Jesus name.
