TODAY’S MEDITATION – Promotion Comes from God (Psalm 75:6-7)

So many people are sweating daily to be noticed by their boss for promotion. As much as all authorities are established by God, it is also Him who can promote you, my brother, my sister. Today’s passage says: “For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: He putteth down one, and setteth up another.” Sometimes we look at things happening in this life and we see grave inequalities: the wicked prosper while the righteous are impoverished. But not always. There is no clear correlation between success and obedience to God, between prosperity and truth, for God gives to whom He wants, how He wants and when He wants (Ecclesiastes 9:11).

My friend, at times, especially when we don’t have all we want, then we start asking God ‘why?’ or we start praying hard for provision or promotion. Wrong motives! In fact, the main problem is that we may be seeing ourselves higher, while God just expects us to humble ourselves. How many people have looked at their situations and cried over it instead of hoping for a better tomorrow? “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall [in due time] lift you up” (James 4:10). God’s Word does not say when He will do this promoting, this lifting up. Abraham waited faithfully for many years. Many will have to wait until the return of Christ for that promotion. But know that promotion comes from God no matter what and we cannot be promoted while we still cannot manage the little He provides to us daily, just like your boss is not going to promote you when you can’t handle the little task he has given you to do.

Now, to know what God looks at to promote us, it is written: “Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them” (Matthew 13:12). How many people know how to conjugate ‘I don’t have’ just because they are unwilling to share or give the little they already have. But let’s not be focused only on material goods here since there is much more into this verse. another Bible version is more explicit: “To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them” (NLT)… God promotes those who have His living Word and apply it, those who seek His daily bread. Jesus is not only the Word made flesh but He is also the bread of life. The promotion from God therefore comes through our total submission to the lordship of Jesus in all the areas of our lives. How many say they are submitted to Jesus but can’t abandon their money, their children, their comfort, their time to Jesus? Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
