TODAY’S MEDITATION – Our Lord is not looking for actors, but for true worshipers (John 4:23-24)

Today’s verses teach us about true worship. My brother, my sister, one of the first thing we learn about angels is that they are always worshiping God in adoration. Now, it is true that the angels do not have to seek for food to eat or work to pay their rents… The Bible tells you not to worry about these things, so why don’t take a challenge, this week, to worship the Lord only during your prayers? Yes, my friend, worship God today by seeking His mercy, as you humble ourselves and recognise that you are nothing without Him. Yes, worship Him who has given you everything though you deserved nothing. He has given you Jesus, the Holy Spirit, the breadth of life, love, grace, peace, saving faith, comfort, strength, wisdom, hope, glory, righteousness, security, eternal life, forgiveness, reconciliation, justification, sanctification, freedom, intercession, etc. My friend, these incredible gifts should motivate you to pour forth praise and thanksgiving, in other words, to worship the Lord today as you forget about yourself and your circumstances (He is taking care of you and your needs anyway)!

But, do you really know How to worship God the way He wants us to? The Bible says we should worship Him by presenting our bodies a living and holy sacrifice! This means giving to God all of ourselves, our hearts, minds, our human abilities, thoughts, attitudes… But how can we do that? “By the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). We renew our minds daily by cleansing them of the world’s wisdom and replacing it with true wisdom that comes from God. That is the reason why we must read and mediate the Word of God daily (Joshua 1:8). There is so much theatrical shows in churches today that some believers think that crying loud is an expression of their true worship. My friend, you worship God with your renewed and cleansed minds, not with your emotions. Let me also tell you that during a church service music can trigger your tears and make you feel emotional, but it does not necessarily mean that you are truly worshiping God. You see, the Bible says we have “the mind of Christ”, not the emotions of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16)! The truth is that many believers end up getting caught up in things like where they should worship, what music they should sing in worship, or how their worship looks to other people. THAT IS TOTALLY WRONG! Jesus tells us that true worshipers worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24), in other words, the form or place of worship is not important… but worshiping God is done properly when our heart and attitude are in the right place!

It’s also important to recall that worship is reserved only for God. Only He is worthy and not any of His servants (Revelation 19:10). Some Christians today worship their spiritual leaders knowingly or unknowingly when they don’t worship God for expectation of something in return, such as a miraculous healing or restoration. My friend, we worship God because He deserves it, and for His pleasure alone. You see, the angels are confronted by the glory of God daily and this causes them to declare His Holiness to Him as if each time they open their eyes it’s like the first time they see Him. We too, we should learn to contemplate the glory of God each second in our lives, around us, and acknowledge God and all His power and glorify Him in everything we do or have, so that our worship may not run dry. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
