TODAY’S MEDITATION – Only say a Word and I shall be healed (Matthew 8:8-13)

Many people wish Jesus would speak a word to them, so they can be healed, restored, forgiven, delivered, etc. My brother, my sister, if you still wish this it may be because you have not yet understood what the Lord answered: “When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him: Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith” (verse 10). Now, let’s see why Jesus was amazed: this Roman officer was among the people the Jews hated because of their oppression and control. Yet, this man was able to put to shame many Jewish religious leaders who pretended to be godly by displaying a faith that amazed Jesus. My friend, it is not because you are calling yourself a Christian that you have a faith that can amaze the Lord! Here, the Lord Jesus is giving us a lesson, so that we do not presume or judge those who are not yet in Christ, for some may display greater faith than you who sit at His table every Sunday! Just look at this Roman officer who still has not been in Bible studies like you might have for many years, but he was able to humble himself to recognize that the authority that he had over the people he commanded as an officer was nothing before the Lord Jesus. As a result, the Lord answered Him: “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would.” And his servant was healed at that moment” (verse 13). Today, ask yourself if your belief has not become to tainted with too much of your own knowledge and understanding of the Word like the Jews with the Book of Law, so much that you have lost focus on the essence of Christianity: faith and submission to the Lord Jesus Christ! You want to hear a word from Him to be healed? The answer is simple: do you trust Him and are you submitted to His teachings enough for Him to tell you: “Go! Let it be done just as you believed it would” (verse 13). Let me reassure you: Jesus has already said that word you expect to hear from Him, so if you are still not healed, restored, forgiven or delivered, turn back to Him and seek Him wholeheartedly. Yes, people of God, let’s realize today that “God does not show favoritism” (Romans 2:11). He will do to you according to your submission to His authority and your faith, because your faith in Him can be genuine only when you submit to Him. And that’s what the Roman officer taught us. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name. [facebook] [retweet]
