TODAY’S MEDITATION – LOVE KILLS SELFISHNESS IN US (Philippians 2:3-4)

The greatest issue man has to deal with is selfishness, and it is only because that attitude urges us to always be concerned with our own interests above the interests of others. My brother, my sister, we all have a selfish nature. However, in today’s verse the Bible commands us “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others”. What does it mean for us, especially for us who claim ourselves to follow the steps of Christ? It simply means that the Lord is asking us to fight the sin of selfish ambition by becoming humble, being humble involves having a true perspective about who we truly are in relation to the Lord, in others words, we are invited never to forget that we are only mud… And as such the Lord is telling us this: “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.” (Romans 12:3). Because the Lord knows we can not deal with selfishness by our own strength He also gave us a good prescription: “Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain” (Psalm 119:36 and Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves (Romans 12:10). Having the attitude of Christ is to demonstrate love and compassion for all those we come in contact with, and also realising that our treasure is in heaven not on earth (Matthew 6:19-21) and that we are more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35), for, the Bible says God loves a cheerful giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Stay blessed in Jesus’ name. [facebook] [retweet]
