In this very reassuring passage, we learn one thing that is key to our Christian walk: the Lord Jesus IS with us. My brother, my sister, we have in the boat of life since our birth, and now as Christians, we know that this life is not abandoned to the devil’s power anymore, since in the boat, Jesus is with us. Yes, Jesus said to His disciples “let’s go” and He indeed went with them. Now, we also should never forget that the boat goes on water, which is unforeseeable: many things can happen (good or bad)… but no matter what happens, the Lord is in that boat with us! The problem with many believers is that they don’t realise the presence of the Lord in their lives, so they think He does not care about what is happening to them. Even the disciples asked Jesus: “don’t you care if we drown?” (verse 38). But, just like Jesus replied to them, He is asking you today: “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (verse 40). Yes, my friend, you call yourself a Christians, so why are you afraid when the storm starts in front of you? Maybe you have heard the Lord telling you to go or do something, and you are just too scared to go or do it. You want to follow Jesus but you don’t want to dare risk a big storm? Let me remind you that storms will always be there until our Lord returns, and some will even be very scary! So, it is you winning over the storm or the storm winning over you by instilling fear in you or paralyzing you… So, if today you realise that Jesus is in the same boat as you, take courage and rebuke the storm (verse 39) with the authority He has given you through the Word; Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
