TODAY’S MEDITATION – Jesus is the only authority over demons (Luke 8:27-31)

Here the Word of God shows us clearly that as a man possessed with demons came out to meet Jesus, “he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!”” (verse 28). Why? Because the demons in him recognized Jesus and His authority immediately. My brother, my sister, demons know who Jesus is and what His great power could do to them. Yes, demons, Satan’s messengers, are powerful and destructive and they are still active today. They will always attempt to distort and destroy your relationship with God. Unfortunately too, some demons operate even within our churches today, that is why the Bible tells us to remain watchful all the time and not to let curiosity lead us to get involved with demonic forces (Deuteronomy 10:10-12). Also never forget that, when you were in the world, demons were less interested in you than they would today that you are in Christ. But you can rest assured that demons are powerless against you who trust in Jesus. Yes, as this man who was possessed with demons started making his move towards Jesus, the demons manifested alone. This should also tell us that people who run from one pastor to another for deliverance should seek Jesus first, for He is the Deliverer, not their pastor’s! No one laid hands on this man… And, my friend, read the next verses to see that demons are trying to beg Jesus not to send them to the bottomless pit, a place reserved to them where they themselves don’t want to go, but they are trying to drag as much as people there (verses 29-31). Thank you Jesus for the Cross that is protecting us and sparing us from demonic attacks. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
