TODAY’S MEDITATION – Is your conduct backing your spiritual claims? (Psalm 78:36-37)

“But then they would flatter him with their mouths, lying to him with their tongues; their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant” (Psalm 78:36-37).

My brother, my sister, can a mere mortal lie to God? Can a mere mortal hide anything from God? You see, we are so used to the world that its mentality can sometimes end up influencing us, so much that the behaviour of some people, even after accepting Christ, would demonstrate that certain habits seem to be glued to their skin. Nothing is new under the sun. Over and over, the children of Israel claimed that they would follow God, but then they turned away from Him again. Today, many believers do the same. And just like with the Israelites, the problem is that they make commitments to God with their mouths and not with their hearts. It is so easy to tell someone ‘tomorrow I will visit you’ and decide not keep that promise to do our own stuff. Are excuses valid when the reasons with give to justify ourselves are not? And because we do such things so naturally with man, we sometimes end up doing the same with God.

My friend, God does not expect any of us to be perfect. Yet He wants our conduct to back up our spiritual claims and promises. Everything that is wrong in our conduct towards the man, who is the image of God, is wrong before God. Let’s learn to be who we really are and avoid being pretenders whose hearts are neither loyal nor faithful, for a pretender must always lie to be someone he is not in reality. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
