TODAY’S MEDITATION – “I want you to show love, not offer sacrifices” (Hosea 6:6)

Today’s passage says this: “For I desire and delight in [steadfast] loyalty [faithfulness in the covenant relationship], rather than sacrifice, And in the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.” My brother, by sister, this amplified edition of the Bible tells us that God expects much more of us than the things we offer Him.

You see, religious rituals can help us understand God and nourish our relationship with Him. A ritual is a religious or solemn ceremonyconsisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order. That is why God instituted circumcision and the sacrificial system in the Old Testament, and baptism and the Lord’s Supper in the New Testament. However, we need to understand that a religious ritual is helpful only if it carried out with an attitude of love for and obedience to the Lord. If a person’s heart is far from God, the ritual they are performing or participating in will become empty mockery for that person. My friend, God does not want our rituals, He wants our hearts. Why do you worship Him? What is the motive behind your ‘sacrifices’ and ‘offerings’? Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
