TODAY’S MEDITATION – “How can we not worry, Lord?” (Luke 12:22-34)

Part of today’s passage says this: “Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has been pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide purses for yourselves that will not wear out, a treasure in heaven that will never fail, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (verses 32-34).

My brother, sister, Jesus commands us not to worry. But how can we avoid it? Only faith can free us from the anxiety caused by greed and lust. Working and planning things responsibly is good, however our planning can still go wrong. My friend, worry is useless because it can not fill any of our needs; feeling concerned is not better because the Creator of the universe loves us and knows what we need. He promises to meet all our real needs but not necessarily all all our desires. So all we have to do is trust in the Lord: He is our loving Father. And this confidence is expressed through prayer that we address Him rather than our complaints or concerns.

Another way to overcome anxiety is to change our perspective on the issue that bothers us: as we seek God’s Kingdom, the Lord will take control of our lives. So, when diverting our attention from what is bothering us, we make Jesus the Lord and King of our lives. Yes, Jesus must be in control of your home, your work, your plans, your relationships, etc… Are you holding back any areas of your life from the Lord’s control? May the Holy Spirit give you strength and wisdom you need to address your worries or concerns. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
