TODAY’S MEDITATION – God’s silence does not mean He is absent in your life (John 11:6-44)

So many believers tell you “God talks to me, I heard God…” But, you look at their ways and you wonder: “did God really talk?” It is amazing to see how people want God to talk to them individually but they are not ready to do what He wants them to do to have a healthy and intimate relationship with Him. My brother, my sister, know that God does not open His mouth to talk like we human beings do. He is God! Just look at the country you are living in. Does the leader of this country talk to the people every single day to comment on anything that happens? So, why do you think that the Lord of lords, the King of kings, who is above all authorities on earth, will be talking to us just like friends in a pub? It remains a privilege for God to speak, when He wills and to remain silent when He wills.

Many times in the book of Psalms God was silent and David expressed his frustration, asking Him why He was not answering him, why He was silent. Yet, today, many believers experience God’s conversation EVERY SINGLE DAY…. Hmmmmm! My friend, the Bible says: “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). In other words, there are times God is also asking you to be silent just like He can be: at those times, He wants you to stop complaining, to stop talking, to stop looking for solutions by your own means, to stop asking Him to answer you, to stop looking for a prophecy… Yes, there are times when the Almighty God is asking us to be quiet while reverently honouring Him, His power and His majesty while He is fighting our battles.

My friend, God’s silence is a time that should bring you close to Him, as you become more intimate with Him. It’s a time He is taking action on your behalf, He is freeing you from your debts, He is fulfilling His plans while you stop making yours. Yes, when God is silent in your life, focus on the Word, not on others. Unfortunately, lots of believers run to men, looking for help or a prophetic word or a revelation at such moments. Sometimes, God will reveal something. Sometimes, He won’t… All in all, when God is silent in your life this should make you consider afresh the reasons why you follow Jesus and make sure that you are doing all you can to be His disciple for the right reasons. The silence of God is for a purpose. The Bible says that, after Jesus heard His friend Lazarus was sick, He did not go immediately: “So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days” (John 11:6)… and Lazarus eventually died. People were agitated by what was happening while Jesus’ silent was going to reveal His glorious power: “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (verse 40). He indeed woke Lazarus from the dead! My friend, stop mourning like Lazarus’ family because you have not received an audible answer from the Lord: He is at work in your life! His silence only shows that He wants you to trust Him and become more intimate with Him. So instead of trying to hear Him talking to you audibly, be still, read the Word and seek His face. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
