TODAY’S MEDITATION: GOD SPEAKS TO OUR HEARTS (Psalm 119:2)

Many believers do not hear God speak and sometimes hear voices from their own conscience or even from the devil who is an imitator, thinking that they have heard of God … until the fruits and results show them that God was not in what they heard. And this is a real problem for the Church! Yet, our God is a Speaker, He likes to speak to us, He wants to communicate so many things to us.
My brother, my sister, looking back from Genesis, and except the times when God told His people that because of their behaviour He was going to remain silent, and He did, we can see that God likes to speak to His people. But the greatest misunderstanding many believers of Christ have established in their minds is that, because the Holy Spirit dwells within us, that means God automatically speaks to us!
So, why did God put His Spirit in us?
The answer is in the Word: “And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God. I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will call for the grain and make it plentiful and will not bring famine upon you” (Ezekiel 36:27-29). Does this passage speak to us of hearing God speak to us? No… Therefore, understand that, if you do not hear God speak, it may be because you still have a poor understanding of the reason why His Spirit dwells in you! Indeed, this is the first and prime reason for the Holy Spirit’s indwelling presence. Remember that in the Old Testament, God spoke to His people, though they did not have that indwelling presence…
This said, how then can we hear from God? First, it starts with you having surrendered all to the Spirit of God in you by allowing Him to first walk like Christ, in other words, in obedience to the Father’s will. Many people don’t want to align their wills to God’s will but expect to hear God. The sad fact is that, while your will is controlling your life and your desires, God the Spirit will step aside waiting for you to allow Him to speak: God has never forced anyone! That is the reason why He searches our hearts every morning: “I the LORD search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve” (Jeremiah 17:10).
This then teaches us that, when you are longing to hear from God, examine your own hearts and secret motive for wanting to hear from Him, because it is to your heart that God speaks. How do we know that? Because it is in your heart that God has put His Word! Yes, if you want to hear from God, ensure you “guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it”( Proverbs 4:23) and that you continuously “keep his statutes
and seek him with all your heart” (Psalm 119:2), because He said: “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13). And, it is impossible to find God and He remains silent. He has so many things to communicate to you about you or about the world. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
