TODAY’S MEDITATION – God is good (Psalm 136:1)

Today’s verse says: “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.” Most of the time we tend to say God is good ONLY when good things are happening to us. And when we are facing hardships, we no longer say God is good, but rather “God is in control.” My brother, my sister, let’s never forget that God is good and in control of all the situations that happen to us: good or bad. Now, when choosing when He is good and in control, you are actually limiting Him to your own conception of His goodness or control. The Lord does not look after you only when you call on Him. The Bible says “Christ Jesus who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us” (Romans 8:34). So, know that Jesus is always looking after you, even when you abandon Him through your rebellions or selfishness. However, also bear in mind that He is not good to you only when things that pleases you happen to you. Now, let’s look closely into this: you say ‘God is good’, but you don’t listen to His commands; He is good but you hardly spend time with Him in prayers or studying His Word; He is good but when you feel sad or unhappy, you forget to say “He is good”; He is good, but you put your selfish desires before what He is asking you to do that pleases Him… My friend, God is good all the time! This Psalm should remind us that God does not like hypocrisy: we cannot determine He is good to us in certain situations and not in others, for “His love endures forever”… the same as His goodness and His control over our lives, and sometimes in His love, He allows hardships “because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in” (Proverbs 3:12). And that does not reduce His goodness to you! Stay blessed in Jesus’ name. [facebook] [retweet]
