Today, let’s learn for Jesus who is showing us that doing God’s will is costly. Yes, Jesus was aware of the suffering He was going to encounter, and being a man, He did not want to endure the horrible experience… So He prayed: “yet I want your will to be done, not mine”. My brother, my sister, know that anything worth having costs something. So, are you really willing to pay the price to gain what is priceless… eternal life? Once I remember talking to a Christian who said since she has become a Christian, it seems that all her life has become worse. I said to her? Really? Then I continued: “maybe, it is because you came to Christ not knowing there was a price to pay… and you also thought Christ was Santa Claus”. My friends, today, many believers come to the Lord ignoring that Christ Himself said, following Him is carrying the cross. Yes, many of us may not face execution for our faith nowadays, but we probably face many problems that wear us down. We could be dealing with irritating people whom we must love and serve, face the burden of unfinished tasks or lack of obvious results, cope with people who are trying to drag you down or fail to understand you, etc… Since such situations can easily cause us stress or make us vulnerable to temptation, even if we have a willing spirit, let’s learn from the Lord who is teaching us how to resit: – by keeping watch by staying awake and being morally alert (verse 34) – by praying to God, because this is how you maintain your vigilance (verse 35) – by seeking support from friends and loved ones (verses 33, 37, 40, 41) – by focusing on the purpose God has given you, because this is how you know you are doing God’s will and not your own (verse 36) My friends, being a Christian is about doing what we saw Jesus doing: aware of what he was going to endure, Jesus expressed His true feelings (He did not want to go through the cross), but He did not deny or rebel against God’s will.
