TODAY’S MEDITATION – “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other SO THAT you may be healed” (James 5:16)

Sometimes, a little mistake can lead us to a great sin, depending on how we deal with it. For example, a brother seats where you wanted to sit. It makes you angry, instead of telling him you are not pleased, you say nothing… but at the first opportunity, you start gossiping about it. And gossiping can lead us to death (Romans 1:28-32). Many examples and situations of this kind can lead us to sin without us knowing that we are sinning. My brother, my sister, in today’s verse we read that “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other SO THAT you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” What does it really mean?

First, as Christians, we should know that the confession of our sin has to be from the root and sincerely, because the person who gossips may be a deep gossiper, so unless that issue is dealt with through counseling for example, they will continue… However, even if God no longer sees his confessed sins because of the cross, God certainly cannot hear the prayers of someone who bears iniquity in his heart !

Secondly, and this is the main point we should keep in mind. God made man on his image. So don’t think you can stand before God to confess your sin when you have not said “I am sorry” to someone you have hurt or wronged (Matthew 18:15). How many times do we confess our sins without taking this first step? Besides, we need to understand that when the Bible say “confess you” sin to a one another”, it means confess your struggles, your fears, your anxieties, your worries, your shortcomings, your emotions, etc. My friends, confessing you have troubles or problems is not confessing your sins. God is ready to release His power for someone to assist you in prayers ” For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20), but you need to open your mouth and name those troubles or problems, because that will give rise to prayer and set you free. If you go to a doctor with a headache, then say your arm hurts, the doctor will give you a cream to rub on your arm while you actually needed a tablet to swallow. Not only would you go back with your arm hurt, but you would have also added a lie to your sins’ counter.

My friend, in Christ Kingdom, every believer is a priest to other believers (1 Peter 2:9) and as long as you despise the prayer of your brother or sister because they are not called “pastor” or “preacher”, you have not understood the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus. And that is the reason why so many of our prayers remain unanswered. Today understand that prayer is a great weapon that breaks every darkness and exposes to light those things in your life that are hidden and giving the devil a hold on you. And the Lord Jesus has made those who believe in Him righteous by shedding His blood. So, for our prayers to be efficient and give great results, we need to confess our sins to one another, pray together SO THAT we can be healed spiritually, physically, materially, etc. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
