TODAY’S MEDITATION – Are you dressed for the wedding? (Matthew 22:1-14)

Are you dressed for the wedding this morning? My brother, my sister, if you have never received Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour, then you are lost and must be born again. If, however, there has been a time in your life when you bowed as a sinner and called on Jesus by faith, confessed your sins and received Him into your life then you are on the only right path there is in this life. If there is the slightest doubt in your heart this morning about the condition of your soul, you need to get it settled by seeking the Lord Jesus. Yet and still, no matter your spiritual condition today, the question is still the same: are you ready for the wedding? You may be, but you must be dressed in Jesus’ clothes and His righteousness alone.

Today’s passage teaches us three things: the Lord is inviting everyone to the wedding celebration (verses 9-10)… It’s an invitation, so no one can pop in just like that. The Bible says “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day” (John 6:44). The second thing is that once invited, we must accept the invitation: “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.” (Romans 10:9-10). The third thing we learn here is that it is impossible to attend the wedding celebration without a wedding garment, because the king screens out His guests and confronts whoever is not properly dressed (verse 12). And in Heaven, excuses, arguments, justifications have no place: “But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. 12 He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. 13 “Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ (Verses 11-13).

My friend, Jesus is returning soon take His bride who “has made herself ready” (Revelation 19:7) for the celebration of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Are you already dressed for this wedding? Imagine the Lord comes today! Are you properly dressed for the ultimate wedding? Lord Jesus, help us through your Spirit to get ready and to clothe ourselves with your Justice always. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
