TODAY’S MEDITATION – Are you asking the Lord “what’s next?” (Colossians 2:6-7)

In our walk with the Lord, sometimes we wonder: “what’s next?” My brother, my sister, it is not us to ask the Lord what’s next. It is Him who determines the stages of your spiritual and physical life. First of all because, if you have come to the Lord Jesus it is God who called you: “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day” (John 6:44). Secondly, God offers you a new life in Christ, but don’t expect to be different all at once. Just as a new baby has to grow and learn, so God is going to work in you and help you to grow. It is God’s part to play, not a human being’s: “So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow” (1 Corinthians 3:7). Yes, this truth needs to be taught to the believers, because many have the wrong belief that they can help themselves grow spiritually, or that the pastor or anyone can make them grow. No, that is a part God has reserved for Himself. Now, this is our part to play to enable God’s part to become manifest in our lives: “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness” (Colossians 2:6-7).

Unfortunately, many believers struggle in their walk with the Lord because they are conscious that their faith is not growing. Yet, today’s passage is clear: our faith will grow strong in the truth we are taught and we will overflow with thankfulness, only when we let our roots grow down into Christ, and when we let our lives to be built on Christ. The problem is that, most of the time, we want God to do His part while we are not yet doing our own. He is a God of order and He is patient, so He lets you start, freely, before He acts deeply in your life. He has already offered you a new life in Christ, and equipped you with means to live this new life through His Word. So why are you still wondering “what’s next?” Actually, it is God who is asking you “what’s next?”, because He is ready to do what He said He would do in your life, but He is waiting patiently for you to walk according to His Word, with total confidence in Him. Don’t delay God’s action in the new life He has given you in Christ. Seize this new life today for a fresh start in all the areas of your life! Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
