TODAY’S MEDITATION – The power of the blood of Jesus (Matthew 26:27-28)

“Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

My brother, my sister, there is wonder working power in the precious blood of the Lamb of God. This power does not only take away the sins of the world, it also gives redemption, deliverance, healing, protection, strength, transformation… But why is it that many people plead the blood of Jesus but they get more defeated by demons’ attacks than they are protected, they stagnate spiritually more than they become strong or transformed? Part of the answer is found on the verse above. The blood of Jesus is the blood of the covenant. Unless you enter and embrace the covenant that goes along with the blood, nothing will ever happen and even the demons will laugh at you hearing you pleading the blood of Jesus.

The covenant that goes along with the blood is clear “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples” (John 15:7-8). The problem is that many people want the blood of Jesus to protect them, cleanse them, strengthen them, etc… without letting Him inside their hearts for Him to abide in them. Pleading the blood of Jesus without having Jesus is in vain. You may have accepted Him, but have you accepted His offer too, His covenant? We know people who marry in this world without love, they do it out of interest and none is committed to the other. But with Jesus, yes, salvation is guaranteed for whoever accepts Christ, but blessings, protection, healing, forgiveness of sins still require our constant vigilance as regards our status in Christ, for as soon as we come out of the covenant, we break its terms, we also reject the power of the blood of Jesus. The Bible says: “They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death” (Revelation 12:11). The second part of this verse explains why we sometimes plead the blood of Jesus, but things get worse: if and when you love your life too much, you will eventually lose it… Let’s accept the Lord and the covenant of the blood to really live by His grace. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
