TODAY’S MEDITATION – What is submission? (James 4: 7)

Some things must be put to death within us. The Bible says, ” Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:24-25). My brother, my sister, when rebellion sets in, you must crucify your flesh. It is not easy, but you can do it by the grace of God. You know, there is a reward for resisting temptation: ” Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believersthroughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast” (1 Peter 5: 9 -10). You see, asking God to strengthen you is not enough… God establishes us and strengthens us as we show faith and resist evil! My friend, when you put your flesh down and submit to the Word, you become like a powerful tree whose roots are deeply rooted. You become like a house that is built on a rock. You become perfected, mature, established and strengthened. You become a little more like Christ and a strong pillar in this world that is filled with pride and rebellion. You see, submission is to do what you are told and smile while you are doing it. Submission touches the heart of God and reveals how He operates. He could make you do anything, but He allows you to obey freely. If a person is forced to do something, then this is not true submission.

My friend, we were not sent on earth to earn your living and to raise a family: you are here to make a contribution to the Kingdom of God. And when you step forward towards submission, no doubt the enemy will knock at your door. Every day many prayers go to God asking Him to push away the devil. This kind of prayer is certainly done by people who do not know the Word because there is not a single verse in the Bible that tells us to pray and ask God to make the devil leave us alone. However, the Bible says that you and I must submit to God and we must resist the devil (James 4:7).
How do you submit to God? First, you submit to His Word. If the Word tells you to do something, you do it. Do not pray for what the Bible tells you to do. It is useless, for God is not going to change what He has already written and said! Besides, you submit to God by submitting to those whom He has placed in positions of authority before you. God gives those in authority wisdom and grace that others don’t get, not because of who they are personally but because of the position they hold. You can be more spiritual than those who have a position of authority over you and even know more verses from the Bible, but that does not mean that you have the grace and anointing to lead as they do. Leaders are called and authorized by God to lead His people and when you submit to their authority, you submit to God. Jesus said to many of His disciples, “Follow me,” and they left what they were doing to follow Him. My friend, the blessings of life come when you know how to listen to His voice, when You obey when He calls you, when you submit to His authority. Yes, submission is a beautiful thing and has many, many rewards. Embrace it today. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
