TODAY’S MEDITATION – Don’t enter 2017 with a debt to God! (Numbers 30:1-7)

The world teaches us this expression ‘it does not matter’ when we promise to someone or when we just promise to do something and we don’t fulfil our promises. My brother, my sister, all words and commitment you made, especially before the Lord matter! Don’t take things lightly before God. You see, today, people think that they can enter and walk out of a marriage and re-marry as they wish… and it does not matter! How many people did just so, but God is looking at them thinking,‘it does matter for me?’ And the worse thing is that when they go through unwanted situations, they only the devil’s attack but ignore that the Bible says: “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfil it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow. 5 It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it” (Ecclesiastes 5:4-5).

My friend, this is the first day of the month that is announcing the end of 2016. Ensure you fulfil all the promises you vowed before God to make, lest you become a fool before the Lord. Very often, we forget this: God looks at our hearts, not at our vows. Yet and still, God looks at His Word and stand at His Word. And His Word says this: “If you make a vow to the Lord your God, do not be slow to pay it, for the Lord your God will certainly demand it of you and you will be guilty of sin. But if you refrain from making a vow, you will not be guilty. 23 Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you made your vow freely to the Lord your God with your own mouth” (Deuteronomy 23:21-23). A whole year has gone, 11 months… many of us have promised God to do this, or committed to do that, but we have not yet done so. But we stand before Him daily asking Him to change our lives, circumstances or situations. The Bible says God is in Heaven and we are on earth… heaven is where our blessings come from. My friend, can heaven release the blessings of someone God is looking at as a fool who might just foolishly or selfishly misuse them? Let’s not deceive ourselves thinking we can mock God (Galatians 6:7). What promises or vows have you committed before the Lord this year? Have you fulfilled all of them? You know, God does not owe anyone anything.

Today, let us all check ourselves and put ourselves in right standing with God so that, if the heaven was closed over our heads, it may be open now for us to see the promises of God fulfilled in our lives. You see, God is willing to fulfil His promises, but sometimes we are the ones stopping Him by our lack of trust of what He can do for us… we want a provision or a promotion, but our earnings never serves Him while His Word says, “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings.” (Malachi 3:8) … And we never cease to ask Him to give us. Jesus honoured His promise despite the difficulties He went through as a man. That is why He could say ‘it is accomplished’. Can we tell God the same today? Have you done all that God expected of you this year or you did only what you thought fit to do? The Bible says, God honoured Jesus… my friend, it is because Jesus kept His vow to die for you and me so that God’s plan could be fulfilled. Therefore, as long as we do not fulfill our promises before God, how can His plan be accomplished through us? Let those who have ears hear! Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
